Playwright John Guare and HAIR composer Gait MacDermot took
one of Shakespeare's lesser-known comedies and turned it into the 1971 Tony Award-winning
Broadway musical. TWO GENTLEMEN retains much of Shakespeare's story of love and friendship, adds a healthy dose of zany comedy, and wraps it up in an extravaganza of rock, soul, and Latino music to produce a vibrant yet beautiful theatrical experience. Bubba's set was his most spectacular, a country setting in Verona that transformed into the gleaming city of Milan right before the audience's eyes. Calhoun Theatre premiered TWO GENTLEMEN in the Fine Arts Recital Hall in 1994, then took the production to Decatur's Princess Theatre in 1995. |
